Frequently Asked Questions: Hosted PBX

1. What is Hosted PBX?

Hosted PBX is a VoIP-enabled business voice service that provides customers with a complete telephone service for their business without required installation and management of complicated and expensive equipment.

2. What is VoIP?

VoIP is the acronym for Voice over Internet Protocol. It is the general term used to describe the technology of transmitting and delivering voice communications over Internet Protocol networks.

3. How much bandwidth do I need for Host PBX?

This depends on the compression algorithm that the service provider is using. G.711 uses up to 90K per call. Using G.711 for VoIP will give the best voice quality; since it is the same codec used by the PSTN network and ISDN lines, it sounds just like using a regular or ISDN phone. It also has the lowest latency (lag) because there is little to no need for buffering, which costs processing power. The downside is that it takes more bandwidth than other codecs, up to 84 Kbps including all the UDP and IP overhead. However, with increasing broadband bandwidth, this should not be a problem.

4. Can I use my existing Internet Service?

Yes! We guarantee high voice quality over third party internet service providers with proper pre-installation testing. We support Cable, DSL, FIOS, and any other high speed fiber connection. We do not guarantee good voice quality on wireless internet or satellite internet.

5. Do you deliver Voice Mail to Email?

Yes! Voicemail messages are delivered as .WAV audio file attachments to your email. There is also an option to automatically transcribe voicemail to text and deliver it via email.

6. How long will it take my company to get up and running on Hosted PBX?

It’s quick! Could be as fast as only two weeks, which is the time necessary to deliver the phones, schedule an install, and configure the network.

7. What kind of savings can my company expect with Hosted PBX?

All depends on what you currently spend, but most of our clients realize operational savings of up to 40% due to lower circuit costs, lower management costs, and lower monthly fees compared to traditional telcos.

8. Do we purchase are phones directly from Vital Voice and Data?

Yes! Our newest phone is the Polycom VVX 500. Click here for a demo.

9. Do you provide on-site installation of the phones?

10. Will my existing phone service be interrupted during the set-up of Hosted PBX?
